Madhya Pradesh Weather Alert: Intense Heatwave to Persist with No Rain in Sight

Bhopal, April 23, 2025 — The sweltering heatwave sweeping across Madhya Pradesh shows no signs of letting up, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) continues its heatwave warning for the state. With temperatures soaring past the 40°C mark in several cities, the IMD has advised residents to take precautions as dry and oppressive weather is expected to dominate for the rest of the week.

No Relief from Rain, Mercury Set to Climb

Weather forecasts indicate that Madhya Pradesh is unlikely to experience any rainfall in the coming days. Cities like Bhopal, Ujjain, Gwalior, Jabalpur, and Sagar are reporting rising temperatures both during the day and at night. According to the IMD, dry conditions will prevail across the region, contributing to an intensifying heatwave.

Bhopal saw a noticeable spike in temperature on Tuesday compared to Monday, and conditions remained scorching on Wednesday. Similar patterns have been observed in Gwalior, Rewa, and Jabalpur, where residents continue to reel under the oppressive heat.

IMD Issues Heatwave Alert for Several Districts

The IMD has issued a specific alert for heatwave conditions across multiple cities, including Satna, Khajuraho, Nowgong, Tikamgarh, Singrauli, Damoh, Ujjain, Panna, and Narmadapuram. The forecast suggests that both daytime and nighttime temperatures will continue to rise sharply from April 24 onward, with the dry spell lasting at least three to four more days.

Health officials and local authorities are urging people to stay indoors during peak afternoon hours, stay hydrated, and take preventive measures against heat-related illnesses such as dehydration and heatstroke.

Rising Temperatures Disrupt Daily Life

The impact of the heat is being felt widely, with empty streets during the afternoon hours and increased electricity demand as air conditioning use spikes. People in both urban and rural areas are being advised to avoid unnecessary travel and follow safety protocols to minimize heat exposure.

The state government is closely monitoring the situation and has instructed local administrations to ensure water availability and emergency medical assistance in vulnerable areas.
