Unstable Weather Returns to Uttar Pradesh

The weather in Uttar Pradesh (UP) continues to remain unstable due to the active western disturbance. After a brief relief from heat, intense thunderstorms and rainfall were witnessed across several regions in UP on Friday night. The sudden change in weather brought down temperatures but also led to severe damage in some areas—uprooted trees, broken electric poles, and power disruptions were reported.

In multiple parts of the state, heavy winds caused roadblocks, and pedestrians had to seek shelter due to high wind speed. Rainfall also damaged harvested wheat crops, adding to farmers’ distress. Throughout Saturday, overcast conditions persisted in many districts.

IMD Issues Rain and Thunderstorm Alerts in UP

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the weather in UP is expected to remain turbulent for the next few days. Thunderstorms, gusty winds, and rainfall are likely across various districts.

  • Western UP regions like Saharanpur, Meerut, Shamli, Muzaffarnagar, and Hapur may witness thunderstorms with lightning.

  • Cities such as Noida, Ghaziabad, and Moradabad are expected to receive light to moderate rainfall along with strong winds.

  • Kanpur, Lucknow, and nearby districts may also see gusty winds and overcast skies.

Rainfall Warnings for Other Northern States

Apart from UP, the IMD has issued heavy rainfall warnings for Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.

  • April 20–21: Heavy rainfall and thunderstorms are predicted in Jammu-Kashmir and Ladakh.

  • Himachal Pradesh: Strong thunderstorms with lightning and hailstorm alerts for April 20.

  • Punjab and Haryana: Winds up to 60 km/h with chances of rain and thunderstorm.

  • UP may also experience gusty winds reaching 60 km/h in some regions.

The weather department has urged residents in affected areas to stay indoors during storms and avoid traveling in open spaces during inclement weather.
