IMD Issues Rain Alert for 20 States Amid Scorching Heat; Strong Winds to Bring Weather Shift

Relief Ahead as Rain, Thunderstorms, and Hail Expected Across India

New Delhi, April 26 — Amid rising temperatures and relentless heatwaves across India, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has delivered welcome news. Over the next seven days, various parts of the country are forecasted to witness heavy rainfall, strong winds, and hailstorms, offering a significant respite from the ongoing heat.

The IMD report highlights that from April 26 to May 1, regions across North, East, Northeast, Central, and South India will experience fluctuating weather patterns, with many areas bracing for showers and gusty winds.

Region-Wise Weather Alerts and Forecasts

Central and Eastern India:
Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal, and the Vidarbha region are likely to face hailstorms between April 26 and April 28. Winds reaching speeds of 50–60 km/h are forecasted until May 1.

Northern India:
Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Jammu and Kashmir are expected to see light rainfall and thunderstorms between April 26 and 27. Meanwhile, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, West Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh are on high alert for heatwave conditions from April 26 through May 1. Additionally, Rajasthan is likely to experience unusually warm nights from April 26 to 29.

Northeastern India:
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected across Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Mizoram, and Tripura over the next seven days. Assam and Meghalaya are likely to experience extremely heavy rain on April 26–27, while Nagaland, Mizoram, and Tripura may see heavy rainfall on April 28–29. Wind speeds could reach 40–60 km/h during this period.

Southern India:
Light to moderate rainfall is anticipated in Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Puducherry. Kerala is forecasted to experience heavy showers. The IMD has also warned of humid and hot conditions in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Gujarat, and Andhra Pradesh.

Heatwave Conditions to Persist in Isolated Areas

Despite the rainfall forecasts, IMD cautions that heatwave conditions will persist in parts of western and central India, particularly in Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, and West Madhya Pradesh. Citizens in these regions are advised to take necessary precautions against extreme heat.

Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and have urged the public to stay informed through official weather updates and to avoid outdoor activities during peak afternoon hours in heat-affected areas.
