Mangaluru: The Mangaluru City Police Commissionerate has imposed prohibitory orders across the city limits from May 2 to May 6 to prevent any untoward incidents in the wake of the murder of Suhas Shetty in Bajpe.
According to an official order issued by City Police Commissioner and Additional District Magistrate Anupam Agrawal, the prohibitory orders have come into force from 6 am on May 2 and will remain effective till 6 am on May 6. The step has been taken under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), keeping in mind public peace and law and order.
The police stated that the situation in Mangaluru is tense after Suhas Shetty was brutally attacked and murdered by miscreants in the Bajpe police station limits on May 1. There are fears that the incident could disturb communal harmony and public order, prompting the administration to enforce strict measures.
As per the prohibitory orders, public gatherings, processions, and shouting slogans in public places are banned. Display and circulation of provocative posters, images, and social media posts that could hurt public morality or trigger unrest are strictly prohibited. Use of loudspeakers, musical performances, and speeches that may incite violence have also been barred during this period.
However, the order clarifies that it does not apply to official government functions, marriage ceremonies, funeral processions, or religious events already permitted by the authorities.
The police have instructed all personnel to ensure effective enforcement of the orders and have called for heightened vigilance to prevent any untoward incidents during the period.
In the wake of the murder of Bajrang Activist Suhas Shetty, ADGP law and order R. Hitendra arrived in Mangaluru.
