In a late-night operation, forest department officials successfully rescued a leopard that had accidentally fallen into a village well in Shirthady village.
The incident occurred around midnight on April 8, at the residence of Ramesh Poojary in Makki village. Locals were shocked to find a leopard trapped inside their well and immediately alerted the authorities.
Acting swiftly under the instructions of Assistant Conservator of Forests P. Sridhar, a team led by Moodbidri Range Forest Officer Kiran Kumar G. arrived at the spot. The rescue operation involved Deputy Range Officers Kavya R., Raghavendra Shetty, and Basappa Halageri, along with forest guards Dharmaraj, Manjunath Malli, Rajesh, and Chandrashekhar. Forest watchers Janardhan and Ranjan, and driver Mithun were also part of the team.
The team safely lifted the distressed animal from the well.
