Vijayapura: An FIR has been registered against BJP MLA Basangouda Patil Yatnal at the Gol Gumbaz Police Station in Vijayapura for allegedly making derogatory and inflammatory remarks against Prophet Muhammad and Islam.
The complaint was filed by one Mohammad Hannan Sheikh, who alleged that during a Ram Navami event held on April 7 in Banni Oni, Hubballi, the legislator made provocative and offensive statements targeting the Islamic faith and the Prophet.
According to the complaint, Yatnal allegedly stated, “Balasaheb Thackeray’s house has given birth to a new Prophet Muhammad,” a remark the complainant described as baseless and deeply insulting to the Muslim community.
The complainant further stated that such comments have hurt the religious sentiments of the community and could potentially disturb communal harmony and peace in the society.
Police have registered a case and begun further investigation.
