Bengaluru: A 30-year-old woman was found dead in her home under suspicious circumstances, leading to the arrest of her husband after her parents accused him of murder.
The deceased has been identified as Bahar Asma, a postgraduate and resident of Kanakanagar in Hebbal. According to police, the incident occurred between Sunday night and Monday morning. Her husband, Basheer Ullah, who works as a cabin crew trainer with Akash Airlines, was arrested after a case was filed based on the family’s complaint.
Asma and Basheer were married in July 2023 under Muslim customs and had been living in a rented house in Hebbal for the past two years. On Monday morning, Asma’s parents tried calling her multiple times but received no response. They reached the residence and found the door locked. Despite calling Basheer, he did not respond. He returned around 1 pm and unlocked the door, only to find Asma hanging in the bathroom.
The family, however, alleges that this was not a suicide. According to Asma’s father, Zameer Burhan, Basheer had several affairs and used to mentally and physically harass Asma. Basheer’s family also were aware of his affairs but continued to support him, alleged Zameer.
He further claimed that Basheer did not contribute to the household expenses despite earning Rs 80,000 per month, and often quarreled when questioned.
Asma’s family alleged that Basheer staged the scene to make it appear as a suicide after killing her.
The Hebbal police have registered a case against Basheer and six others under charges of abetment and suspected murder. The investigation is ongoing.
