US President Donald Trump hit out at China, accusing Beijing of backing out of a major aircraft agreement with Boeing and reigniting tensions over trade between the two nations.
In a Truth Social post on Tuesday, Trump claimed China had reneged on a significant Boeing deal, days after Bloomberg reported that Chinese authorities had instructed domestic airlines to halt further deliveries of Boeing jets and stop purchasing US-made aviation equipment.
"Interestingly, they just reneged on the big Boeing deal, saying that they will “not take possession” of fully committed to aircraft," Trump wrote.
Trump, who returned to the White House earlier this year, also accused Beijing of failing to honour a trade agreement negotiated during his first term.
He also slammed the Biden administration for not enforcing a deal with the Asian giant that provided $28 billion dollars to the farmers.
“It was a great transaction for the USA, until Crooked Joe Biden came in and didn’t enforce it. China largely reneged on the deal (although they behaved during the Trump Administration), only buying a portion of what they agreed to buy.”
He also attacked the previous government saying that China “had ZERO respect for the Crooked Biden Administration, and who can blame them for that?”
He said China only bought "a portion of what they agreed to buy" under that pact.
"Our farmers are GREAT, but because of their GREATNESS, they are always put on the Front Line with our adversaries, such as China, whenever there is a Trade negotiation or, in this case, a Trade War," he wrote. "I rewarded our farmers with a payment of $28 Billion Dollars, all through the China deal. It was a great transaction for the USA, until Crooked Joe Biden came in and didn’t enforce it."
The President reiterated his pledge to shield American farmers, saying, "The USA will PROTECT OUR FARMERS!!!"
The response came as the Trump administration continues to escalate tariffs on Chinese imports, introducing a sweeping 145 percent total levy on many goods from China, including a 10 percent baseline tariff applied to several global trading partners.
Beijing, meanwhile, responded with tariffs of its own, focusing on US agricultural products and introducing a 125 percent levy on some American goods.
