Priyanka Gandhi will face tough competition in Wayanad Lok Sabha bypoll: Kerala BJP candidate Navya Hariprasad

BJP 's candidate for the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat, Navya Haridas, has declared that her Congress rival Priyanka Gandhi will face tough competition in the upcoming by-elections. Both Haridas and Gandhi are set to compete for the seat vacated by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.

"My opponent is Priyanka Gandhi, and all I can say is Congress will be facing tough competition in Wayanad," Haridas told ANI. She criticized Rahul Gandhi, claiming he had neglected the constituency. "When the people of Wayanad faced landslides, they did not have a representative to raise their issues in Parliament," Haridas said, adding, "The case will be similar if Priyanka Gandhi is elected."

This marks Haridas' first run in a Lok Sabha election, though she has served as a two-time councillor in the Kozhikode Corporation. The BJP officially named her their candidate on Saturday.

The seat became vacant after Rahul Gandhi chose to retain his seat in Raebareli, Uttar Pradesh, following his election to the Lok Sabha from both constituencies earlier this year.

Meanwhile, the Congress confirmed Priyanka Gandhi's candidacy on October 15, and she is expected to file her nomination on October 23, ahead of a planned roadshow alongside Rahul Gandhi. This will be Priyanka's debut in electoral politics.

The Left Democratic Front (LDF) has fielded Sathyan Mokeri as its candidate for the November 13 bypoll .

Voting for the Wayanad seat will take place alongside by-elections in 47 assembly constituencies across 15 states. Additionally, the first phase of the Jharkhand assembly polls will be held the same day.
