JLR to restart production in UK after cyber attack brought production to standstill for over thirty days

Jaguar Land Rover ( JLR ) has resumed production at some of its manufacturing sites in the UK. The car maker was hit by a cyber attack last month, bringing production lines at standstill since September. According to a BBC report, JLR has now confirmed that it is resuming operations at select sites. The company says that the production will resume in a phased manner, starting with its Wolverhampton engine plant and its battery assembly centre in Hams Hall. Further, the employees who work in facilities preparing pressed metal bodywork at the company’s sites in Castle Bromwich, Halewood and Solihull will be brought back.

Jaguar Land Rover announces new supplier financing programme

Because of the cyberattack, some of JLR’s direct suppliers had to lay off workers after their revenue took a hit. The company has announced a programme to fast-track payments to its direct suppliers, aiming to stabilize its supply network and supporting partners.

Sharing his thoughts on the latest update, Adrian Mardell, CEO of JLR, said, “This week marks an important moment for JLR and all our stakeholders as we now restart our manufacturing operations following the cyber incident”.

“From tomorrow, we will welcome back our colleagues at our engine production plant in Wolverhampton, shortly followed by our colleagues making our world‑class cars at Nitra and Solihull. Our suppliers are central to our success, and today we are launching a new financing arrangement that will enable us to pay our suppliers early, using the strength of our balance sheet to support their cashflows,” he added.

The company said that the move will be “closely followed” with vehicle manufacturing restart at Nitra, Slovakia. The Range Rover and Range Rover Sport production lines in Solihull are expected to restart later in the week, BBC report says.
