When LeBron James loves a movie, you’re going to hear about it. That was the case on Thursday night when the NBA superstar tweeted out glowing praise for Sinners, the upcoming film from director Ryan Coogler and star Michael B. Jordan . But while the tweet came with all caps, emojis, and even a “10/10” rating, we couldn’t help but notice one name was oddly missing: Hailee Steinfeld .
LeBron calls ‘Sinners’ a 10/10 film and thanks Ryan Coogler for the private screening
LeBron’s message couldn’t have been more enthusiastic. He tweeted:
“My brothers Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan did it again!!! ABSOLUTE INCREDIBLE FILM! Ryan, Thank you for allowing My Queen, I, family and friends to screen it. 10/10 movie! Make sure y’all go check out ‘SINNERS’ tomorrow! It’s a MUST SEE!!!!!! 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾”
The hype was real and totally expected. LeBron has a long-standing friendship with both Coogler and Jordan, and he’s often vocal about projects that resonate with him, especially those tied to Black excellence and Hollywood powerhouses he’s close with.
Hailee Steinfeld ’s absence in the tweet raised eyebrows as fans were also seen calling LeBron out for sneaking popcorn in his hoodie
Despite the all-out praise, one thing was missing from LeBron’s tweet: any mention of Hailee Steinfeld, who plays a major role in the film. Steinfeld, a household name thanks to Hawkeye, Pitch Perfect, and her voice work in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, has been part of the Sinners marketing push and features prominently in trailers.
While it’s entirely possible that LeBron was simply shouting out his close friends rather than snubbing anyone, the absence still stood out especially considering the scale of his endorsement.
Fans quickly turned LeBron’s movie night into meme material after spotting what looked like a stash of popcorn tucked inside his hoodie pocket. To fans, it looked like LeBron low-key guarding his snacks like it was Game 7.
There’s no doubt LeBron loved the “Sinners”. His tweet did what it was meant to do, generate buzz for the movie and shine light on the creative talents behind it.
But in the age of online hyper-awareness, every word is noticed, and every omission becomes a talking point. While Hailee Steinfeld’s name wasn’t in the tweet, she’s definitely on fans’ minds and with the film dropping soon, all eyes will be on her performance regardless of who got the social media love.
