Jayson Tatum is out of the hospital and held an emotional reunion with his teammates. The Boston Celtics power forward ruptured his right Achilles tendon during Game 4 against the New York Knicks and underwent surgery. His teammates met him at the team hotel to check on him after his surgery, ahead of their Game 6 in the Eastern Conference semifinals.
Boston Celtics players meet Jayson TatumAccording to ESPN, Boston Celtics point guard Payton Pritchard said after meeting Tatum, "We didn't talk about basketball at all. That stuff is bigger than basketball now. It's seeing how he is as a person, how he's dealing with stuff. The basketball side, we'll handle that. But just want to check in as a friend."
Celtics guard Sam Hauser added, "It sucks to see someone go down like that who doesn't deserve it. But he wouldn't want more than us to just keep winning. We saw him yesterday. He seems to be in good spirits. Definitely thinking about him and trying to get some wins for him."
As Jayson Tatum recovered at a New York hospital and is expected to take nine months to fully recover, the Boston Celtics went on to register a 127-102 win over the New York Knicks in Game 5 in his absence. They avoided elimination and have strong chances in the championship if they continue to stay resilient despite Tatum’s absence. Game 7 could be a decider if they win Game 6.
Tatum also shared a picture of himself from the hospital to keep fans updated about his condition. “Thankful for all the love and support,” he had written in the caption. The post received almost 2 million likes on Instagram. Fans and friends sent him prayers and best wishes on social media to cheer him up.
