'We already have one trophy': Rajat Patidar on chances of being first RCB captain to win a trophy

The Royal Challengers Bengaluru's quest for a maiden IPL crown has been a well-documented affair for 18 years. Time and again, various generations of the franchise's squads have tried and failed at getting their hands on the trophy. While the side has a very clear shot of adding to their cabinet this season, captain Rajat Patidar argues that winning the IPL isn't something that is entirely new to the franchise.

Speaking to Mayanti Langer in a podcast for the club, the RCB skipper was quick to dismiss the possibility of becoming the first skipper in team's history to lead his side to the IPL trophy. With a smile on his face, the 31-year-old stated that the women's team has already achieved the feat.

Patidar highlighted that the first RCB skipper to win a trophy would be Smriti Mandhana, the captain of the women's team when they beat Delhi Capitals in the WPL final in 2024.

Who's that IPL player?

"We have one trophy. The women's team has won it. It's a big inspiration for us. We have one trophy. No one can say that we don't have a trophy", said the captain. While he did admit that the pressure on him to deliver is high, the spin-basher also stressed that he sees it as an opportunity to shine.

As things stand, RCB sit in second spot in the IPL table. The tournament restarts on May 17, and RCB will get proceedings underway with their 12th game of the league stage against Kolkata Knight Riders.

With 8 wins and 16 points already, the Royal Challengers can secure a playoffs spot with one win in the 3 games that remain for them. RCB will play KKR on Saturday, followed by games against the Sunrisers Hyderabad and Lucknow Super Giants.
