It’s that time of year again when every student and their parents undergo an emotional rollercoaster ride. Across the country, exam boards are releasing Class 10 and 12 results.
For many, it's a time of celebration that comes along with sweets, selfies, and social media posts. But for others, the fear of poor performance or failure looms on their heads. In numerous homes, the pressure is intense, expectations are sky-high, and the mood is tense. Students often find themselves dreading the possibility of disappointing their parents.
In the society where academic success is often viewed as the only path to a respectable future, failing an exam can feel like the end of the world. But a story has come from Karnataka, where a family's reaction to their son's academic failure has gone viral for all the right reasons.
Story of unconditional support
Abhishek Cholachagudda, a Class 10 student of Basaveshwar English Medium School in Bagalkot, Karnataka, scored only 200 marks out of 600, failing in all six subjects in his board exams. In a result that could have easily broken a teenager's spirit, what followed instead was a lesson in love, acceptance, and resilience.
Abhishek scored 32%, and this number was designed on the cake,As Abhishek cut the cake, we, all family members, fed him and encouraged him to do better next time”, said his father to the Times Of India.
While some of his friends chose to mock him for the failure, but Abhishek’s parents chose a completely different path. Rather than scolding or shaming their son, they celebrated him. They cut a cake, hosted a small gathering, and uplifted his mood with words of encouragement and a dose of reality.
“You may have failed in exams, but not in life. You can always try again and succeed next time,” his parents told him, by choosing compassion over criticism, anger and scolding.
The gesture left a deep impact on Abhishek, who spoke about how much it meant to him. “I will again write the exam, pass, and succeed in life,” he told local reporters, according to India Today.
Apart from Abhishek's parents, his sister, grandmother, and other relatives also took part in the celebration.
At a time when stories of harsh parental reactions and pressure-induced student stress continue to make headlines, this family’s take on their son’s inability to score good marks gives a powerful message that failure is not final, and love and support can be more powerful than any exam result.
