TV celebs raise concern overHyderabad deforestation

Send Push
In recent news, some TV celebrities such as Sharad Malhotra, Rupali Ganguly and Jiya Shankar have raised their voices against the current deforestation in Hyderabad. The green cover of the city has been reducing with the process of rapid urbanization and infrastructural developments, and hence environmentalists and public personalities have raised alarms about the ecological impact.

Sharad Malhotra, famous for playing characters in successful television shows, stressed how essential it is to conserve urban forests. He shared a post that revealed how much the animals are suffering with a heartbreak emoticon. Jiya Shankar, who is another well-known television actress, pointed out the wider impact of deforestation.

Rupali Ganguly, on the other hand, penned down a long note addressing the issue. “Cries of birds and peacocks in the Hyderabad forest and the visuals of the bulldozers keep playing in my mind. God bless the protesting students and the alumni for fighting for the voiceless..as of now It is a relief that Supreme Court has halted the clearing of the Hyderabad forest and hope that this becomes permanent and deforestation stops! Destroying a forest for an IT Park?? Ridiculous how land mafia is catered to! Also I wonder where are all the celebrities and activists who protested for weeks during the Save Aarey campaign? It was highlighted nationally and internationally… we need you all again to raise your voice for Kancha Gachibowli? Both the forests r our lungs Aarey 81 acres and Hyderabad is 400 acres.”

She further wrote, “When Mother nature doesn’t discriminate why r we? Let’s come together and be the voice for the voiceless.”

The Hyderabad deforestation problem has drawn attention from many quarters. In recent times, Hyderabad University students have held protests against the felling of green cover, targeting local authorities. Satellite imagery has also revealed large-scale deforestation in places such as Kancha Gachibowli, further raising eyebrows among environmentalists.

The combined voices of students, environmentalists, and celebrities emphasize the critical need for sustainable development processes that emphasize ecological conservation in conjunction with urbanization.
