Send Push
A viral video showing France’s First Lady, Brigitte Macron, appearing to lightly shove President Emmanuel Macron before descending from a presidential plane reignited public interest in their relationship. Though Macron brushed it off as playful—“I was bickering, or rather joking, with my wife”—the moment fueled renewed curiosity about the age-gap couple’s dynamic and Brigitte herself. So, who exactly is the woman behind France’s head of state—and how wealthy is she?

Who is Brigitte Macron?

Born Brigitte Marie-Claude Trogneux on April 13, 1953, in Amiens, France, she hails from an esteemed bourgeois family. The Trogneux name is synonymous with chocolate—her family has run the prestigious Chocolaterie Trogneux since 1872. Today, her nephew Jean-Alexandre Trogneux oversees the business, which produces around two million macarons annually across several French cities.

Before stepping into the political spotlight, Brigitte Macron established a distinguished career in education. In the 1980s, she taught literature in Strasbourg and later moved to Lycée la Providence in Amiens, where she taught French and Latin. It was at this school that she met Emmanuel Macron, who was then a 15-year-old student and also a classmate of her daughter. Between 2007 and 2015, Brigitte taught at the prestigious Lycée Saint-Louis de Gonzague in Paris.

Brigitte’s relationship with Emmanuel Macron has long attracted public scrutiny, primarily because of their 25-year age gap and the circumstances of their meeting, when he was a teenager and her student. Despite the criticism, Macron speaks highly of their bond. The duo got married in 2007.

Brigitte Macron’s net worth

Brigitte Macron’s wealth largely stems from family inheritance and savvy real estate holdings. According to Le Figaro Immobilier, the jewel of her estate is the Villa Monéjan , a four-story residence in Le Touquet passed down from her parents. After extensive renovations funded partly by a €350,000 loan, the property is now valued between €2.7 and €2.8 million.

In addition to the villa, she owns two commercial units rented out to a real estate agency and a fashion boutique. These investments yielded €27,599 in rent in 2021, up from €23,586 in 2017.

While Emmanuel Macron’s personal assets are modest by presidential standards, Brigitte Macron’s estimated net worth in 2025 stands at around $10 million, according to various French media outlets.
