NEW DELHI: State-run Oil India Ltd. has started producing gas from Bakhritibba field in the Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer district, drilling three wells in the desert within the specified development period for speedy monetisation by ramping up output to 100 standard cubic meters per day.
Bakhritibba becomes the second hydrocarbon production centre after Cairn India ’s Barmer fields, which will encourage further exploration in the state. OIL had won the block in the third auction of discovered small fields launched in June 2021.
“Every hydrocarbon molecule produced fuels India’s march towards energy security and self-reliance,” oil minister Hardeep Singh Puri said in a post on microblogging site X on Monday to announce the start of production.
