RAIPUR: Chhattisgarh’s Raunak Chauhan delivered an impressive performance to finish as the runner-up at the All India Senior Ranking Badminton Tournament held in Pune, marking a significant milestone in his budding career.
Raunak displayed remarkable skill and composure throughout the tournament. In the quarter-final, he defeated Tamil Nadu’s Siddhant Gupta in straight sets with a commanding scoreline of 21-19, 21-8.
He then cruised through the semi-final, overpowering Maharashtra’s Darshan Pujari 21-8, 21-8 to book his spot in the final.
In what was his maiden appearance in a senior national-level final, Raunak faced a tough challenge against Karnataka’s Tushar Suveer. Despite a spirited effort, Raunak went down fighting, with the match ending 19-21, 21-16, 12-21 in Suveer’s favour.
This performance builds on Raunak's consistent progress; he reached the semi-finals of the Senior National Badminton Championship last year. His current form reaffirms his status as one of the most promising young talents in Indian badminton.
Adding to his accolades, Raunak also secured a place in the Indian team for the upcoming Asian Junior Badminton Championship, scheduled to be held in Indonesia in July.
He earned his spot based on his impressive showing at the national selection trials conducted in New Delhi from June 8 to 11.
