Thiruvananthapuram: As part of empowering young men and women to play a crucial role in disaster management, Mera Yuva Bharat, an autonomous body of ministry of youth affairs & sports, is selecting civil defence volunteers.
The recruitment aims to build a trained volunteer force capable of dealing with natural disasters, accidents, emergencies and unexpected situations.
Volunteers will receive a week-long specialised training in collaboration with national and state disaster management agencies. This initiative not only fosters strong civic responsibility and discipline among the youth but also equips them with the skills to act swiftly in critical situations.
According to the authorities, considering the current state of the country and emerging security concerns, there was an increasing need to establish a robust community-based response system.
This includes rescue operations, evacuation efforts, first aid, emergency care, traffic management, crowd control, public safety, disaster rehabilitation activities and assisting govt agencies and local bodies.
Interested individuals can register as self-defence volunteers on the My Bharat portal.
