Prayagraj: A youth allegedly killed his grandmother at Dadauli village under the limits of Soraon police station in the trans-Ganga area of Prayagraj district on Sunday. Cops have detained the accused, identified as Keshav Kumar Vishwakarma (30), a resident of Dadauli for questioning.
A senior officer told TOI that the accused, in an inebriated state, attacked his grandmother, Sarju Devi (80), with a sharp object while she was sleeping on a cot. The attack left the elderly woman critically wounded in her neck region, and she was declared dead on arrival at the hospital. Ironically, after killing his grandmother, the accused continued sitting beside her until he was caught by family members and neighbours while making an abortive bid to escape. Locals also thrashed him for his act.
Police, however, said that exact motive behind the killing was still unknown, and the accused was heard saying that he ‘freed her'. Investigations are ongoing. Meanwhile, police said that the accused was working as a carpenter at a local shop. On Sunday afternoon, he reached the house in an inebriated state and attacked his grandmother.
