Locals have praised an overlooked UK city that they say doesn't get enough credit. City breaks within the UK are a popular choice for visitors from abroad and at home. Whether it's the excitement of London, the nightlife of Liverpool, or the historic charm of Edinburgh, the UK is home to amazing cities with a slew of things to do for visitors. However, some get overlooked, even though they have plenty to offer.l
One of those cities is a tiny spot with a historic high street, interesting Roman heritage and iconic landmarks. Lincoln is a small city of just over 100,000 people. While it is small compared to other UK cities, it is packed full of interesting things to do and see. From the high street to the cathedral to the plethora of places to eat, drink and shop, you won't be stuck for something to do if you visit Lincoln. That is according to locals, who took to social media to praise the small yet mighty city.
When a Reddit user asked which UK towns, cities and villages were underrated, a number of people responded and explained why Lincoln deserved a mention. "The UK has so many underrated places that don't get the love they deserve," the original poster wrote. "Not talking about the usual suspects like London or Edinburgh, but those hidden gems that nobody seems to have heard of."
One user said that Linciold doesn't "get the credit" when it comes to go-to cities in the UK. "It's such a historically significant city, has plenty to see and do, and the food and drink are excellent," they said.
Others were quick to agree. One person responded: "The fact that it isn't really on the way to anywhere is both a blessing and a curse. It's not like York or Durham, which you can pop into on the way to Edinburgh or London; you have to actively choose to visit Lincoln and its shire."

According to Lincoln's official tourism site, it is a "hidden gem", described as "one of England's finest cities". Lincoln is located in the northeast of England, not too far from the breathtaking Lincolnshire Wolds National Landscape.
However, there is plenty of excitement in the city of Lincoln. One of the top attractions is Lincoln Castle, which people have described as "gorgeous" and a "fantastic day out".
Meanwhile, other top-rated attractions in Lincoln include Lincoln Cathedral, the International Bomber Command Centre, the Museum of Lincolnshire Life, Steep Hill, Doddington Hall and Gardens, and Lincoln Guildhall.

A slew of people commented on Lincoln when it was mentioned in this Reddit thread. One person said: "I moved to Lincoln from London 10 years ago and I love it. So much character and I've never regretted it, the born and bred here like to talk about how it's crap, but I disagree. I love the modernity mixed with the historical."
"I lived in Lincoln for a couple of years when I was in my twenties. I loved it there, it's fantastic! There is so much history, beautiful architecture (the Cathedral alone is worth the visit), great nightlife and a decent city centre."
The high street in Lincoln is a thriving area. In fact, the city centre in Lincoln has over 200 locally-owned businesses, according to the local tourism authority. Expect vintage shops, bookstores and boutiques.
