The pretty little UK village with an incredible waterfall where Robin Hood was filmed

The UK is full of small villages where people go to walk, relax or enjoy the countryside. But there's one place that offers something a bit different, and it's not far from the Yorkshire Dales. Visitors don't just come for the views. They come to see one of the most impressive sets of waterfalls in the country, made even more famous by a Hollywood film.

It's a peaceful spot, surrounded by trees and countryside, but the noise of the water can be heard well before you reach it. There are actually three waterfalls in the same location, one above the other, and each one looks completely different depending on the season.

The village is called Aysgarth. It's in Wensleydale, North Yorkshire, and the waterfalls are known as Aysgarth Falls.

They were used as a filming location for Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, starring Kevin Costner.

One of the most famous scenes in the film, the fight between Robin Hood and Little John, was shot in the water there.

Costner ended up soaked as the two characters battled on the river.

Aysgarth Falls is now one of the best-known walking stops in the area. There are paths leading to each part of the river, the Upper, Middle and Lower Falls, and plenty of places to stop for a photo.

The waterfalls are formed by the River Ure as it drops over a series of wide limestone steps.

Each section has its own character - the Upper Falls are the most powerful, the Middle Falls are the widest, and the Lower Falls are known for their calm pools and tree-lined views.

There's also a visitor centre, a small café, and two nearby car parks. It's a popular place for walkers and families, especially after rainfall when the water level rises.

The village itself is quiet and surrounded by open countryside. It's a good base for exploring the Dales or just sitting by the river.

Many who've been there say the waterfalls are the main reason they visited.

Another visitor said: "Kevin Costner got quite a soaking here in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. Well worth the trip."

A third added: "My wife was impressed they shot scenes here for the film. The falls were even better than we expected."

Entry to the falls is free, though parking charges apply. Dogs are allowed on leads, and most of the paths are easy to follow.
