Horrifying footage has emerged of a head-on collision between two motorcyclists, leaving one without a leg. Last year, Kathryn Goff, 52, was riding her vehicle in Devon during the pouring rain. While taking over a RAC recovery van towing her partner's car, another motorbike emerged from ahead. Distressing dashcam video footage shows Goff overtaking the van and smashing into the oncoming motorcyclist on the A3052.
Her Kawasaki bike hits a Honda at full speed, which is when the footage cuts out. Devon and Cornwall police have since confirmed that the near-fatal accident resulted in the other rider having to have their leg amputated.
On Friday, Goff appeared at Exeter Crown Court for sentencing, where she pleaded guilty to causing serious injury by dangerous driving. The motorcyclist was sentenced to 20 months in jail, and her licence was suspended for four years.
The court heard Alan Kennedy from the Serious Collisions Investigation Team explain: "Kathryn Goff's actions on the day of the collision resulted in an injury which has changed the life of another motorcycle rider.
"This was a totally avoidable collision.
"Goff's riding fell far below the standard expected of a road user and the decision to perform the overtake was made even worse by the poor weather conditions at the time.
"We hope this case will serve as a reminder that every manoeuvre can have tragic consequences."
Dashcam footage has captured many horrific crashes and incidents across the country, one being a Ford Transit driving into two cars while going the wrong way up a road. A video shows the vehicle speeding down the A30 in Somerset, before crashing into a red Toyota Taris which flew into pieces.
The Toyota was pushed onto the side of a road, but a Volkswagen Polo then crashed into them both. Emergency vehicles rushed to the scene of the crash, where a man and a woman were taken to hospital with injuries. The van driver was later charged in relation to the accident.
