Taylor Fritz picks his most feared opponent between Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner

Taylor Fritz is one of the best tennis players on the planet but he still has a wildly one-sided win-loss record against both Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner. In the case of Alcaraz, it became even more one-sided on Friday afternoon when the Spaniard romped to a four-set victory and booked his spot in the Wimbledon final.

Even the great Novak Djokovic is routinely coming up short against the two standout young guns in the men's game. And there appears to be very little separating them, with last month's French Open final going the distance in thrilling fashion, and this Sunday's SW19 finale promising further drama.

But Fritz has made it clear that he fears one opponent more than the other. Fresh from a head-on clash with Alcaraz on Centre Court, the American explained how the world No.2's game makes him more 'uncomfortable' than that of Sinner.

"For me, from the ground I think I had more success rallying and playing with Jannik because he plays a bit flatter, and it's a little bit more predictable," he said. "He's unbelievable at what he does playing from the baseline.

"I think Carlos is a little more unpredictable with the slicing and the coming to net and the drop shots. Carlos has a lot of different ways to play. I also think Carlos, one thing he does, when he whips his forehand across, there's a lot of movement away, which is difficult.

"Jannik is more through the court, which for some people... it just depends who you're playing. For me, personally, I'd rather probably deal with the flat one than the ball that's working away from me.

"They both generate a lot of just, like, raw power. But I think for me it's a little more uncomfortable to play Carlos just because of the unpredictability of what he's going to do."

Fritz's verdict comes despite the fact he has only beaten Sinner once in their five competitive meetings. That came at Indian Wells all the way back in 2021, when Sinner was still a teenager, and the Italian has won four consecutive head-to-head matches since.

With Fritz out of the way, and Sinner dispatching Djokovic in straight sets hours after the American's defeat to Alcaraz, it will be left to the world's two top stars to battle it out for the title. Alcaraz is hunting down a third consecutive Wimbledon crown, while Sinner has his first in the crosshairs.
