Police are responding to an "active situation" in Santa Monica, California, after a man reportedly shot at officers before barricading himself in a building. One officer was reportedly injured by gunfire, according to unconfirmed reports. Santa Monica Police said: "Please avoid the area near Santa Monica Place. Officers are responding to an active situation. Updates and additional information will be provided once available. Thank you for your patience and cooperation."
Police said members of the public should avoid the area near Santa Monica Place (4th St & Colorado) to allow emergency personnel to respond safely and efficiently. The department added: "One of our officers sustained injuries during the incident and was transported to a local hospital for medical care. This remains an evolving situation. Additional details will be shared as they are confirmed and when appropriate to do so."
