Ruben Amorim has suggested that Manchester United would have lost to Nottingham Forest if the match had been played last season. United took the lead at the City Ground with a header from Casemiro, but the game was dramatically flipped after the second half kicked off.
Morgan Gibbs-White equalised in the 48th minute and Nicolo Savona put Forest ahead just two minutes later. Forest supporters were hopeful for their first league win since August, but Amad scored a spectacular goal with nine minutes left to ensure a draw. When questioned if the Red Devils would have lost the same fixture last season, Amorim simply responded: "Yeah."
He then added: "By more goals [they would have lost]. That is my feeling." When asked why, Amorim explained: "It's the confidence, of course, it's completely different. We came from three good games and we have a different confidence. We understand each other better.
"We talk more about this, that football is like this, and we proved it this year. We can have bad moments, but suddenly we have three good games. So football is like that. And the game is like that also.
"We had good moments, we score, you can sense we are in control of the game when the first half finished. We started the second half, we suffer, disconnect for five minutes and that's enough in the Premier League, but we managed to recover from that, which is a good feeling."
Reflecting on the match, Amorim shared: "We lost control of the game for five minutes and paid the price. We did some things well. Our level of energy dropped a little bit.
"And when our energy drops a little bit, you can feel it. We can play well, but it's not full power. But my feeling is that the players tried, really tried. They tried during the week and tried again today.
"In the past, if we had this kind of bad five minutes and we suffer two goals, we didn't recover. Today is a different feeling and you can sense we could win this game, but we weren't going to lose, and that's sometimes the feeling a big team sometimes has.
"We had the opportunity to win in the end, but we drew. We dropped two points. I think last year we suffered a lot. We want to win games and overcome these moments, but now they know how to do it.
"We just need to be inside of the game until the final 10 minutes of the game. That is part of football. In the past, we could have lost everything in the positions and the way we play the game.
"I think we are improving in that aspect. Again, we did some things right, but we also have potential to play so much better, which is the goal."
