Pretty European island has 'serene turquoise waters' and 'fewer crowds'-26C in October

With colder weather just around the corner, many Brits will be searching for a warm place to holiday. Car rental experts SIXT have analysed the European destinations with the bluest waters, so holidaymakers can experience a complete contrast to British weather.

They have shared the top destination to visit, and it's still 25°C in October, perfect for an autumn getaway. They said: "Malta is a beautiful island just off the coast of Sicily, Italy. It's got a range of things to do, from a city break feel in Valletta, to gorgeous beach resorts in St. Paul's Bay."

What makes this "gem" an even better choice in October and beyond is that temperatures can reach up to 25°C throughout the day.

Malta has lows of 18°C throughout the autumn, which is the perfect weather for many people.

The experts added: "The Blue Lagoon in Malta is the go-to excursion for many visitors, famous for its turquoise waters and pineapple drinks.

"But with tourism booming, 3.7 million visitors expected this year, new restrictions mean access is capped at 4,000 people a day, and you must book in advance.

"Known as the second bluest water in Europe, the Blue Grotto, in Wied i-urrieq, boasts sea caves, natural rock formations and serene turquoise waters."

What's even better, here you can pay just €10 for the cave boat tour and get straight in line.

There's even a spot to enjoy swimming with no time limit, according to the experts.

They noted: "All the more reason to opt for the Blue Grotto, offering the same vivid blue scenery, but with fewer crowds, making the perfect backdrop for all avid picture takers."

Another country that still experiences warm weather in October is Sardinia, which has areas home to white sandy beaches and crystal clear water.

Similar to Malta, you can opt for a city break feel when visiting the capital of Cagliari, or a more beachy trip.
