Drivers have been warned to expect four miles of delays on part of the M1 near Toddington after a multi-vehicle crash shut down the motorway.
Bedfordshire Police wrote on Facebook: "We are currently at the scene of a collision on the M1 northbound between junctions 11A and 12. All lanes are currently closed while emergency services deal with the incident. Please avoid the area where possible and consider alternative routes to help ease congestion. Thank you for your cooperation." Drivers are being warned to expect delays "in excess of 1 hour", according to National Highways. People are being asked to avoid the area and find alternate routes.
