picked his mum out in the crowd and revealed that she had just recovered from breast cancer after the world champion lifted the Northern Ireland Open trophy. The 32-year-old defeated world No. 1 to claim the lucrative £100,000 prize.
An emotional Wilson says that he learned of his mum's illness around his triumph earlier this year. He dedicated his victory at The Crucible to her and has enjoyed plenty of success since.
The Warrior thumped Trump 9-3 in Belfast, securing his victory with an epic 119 break. It is the first time he has won the Northern Ireland Open. In an emotional interview afterwards, he opened up on his mum's illness and revealed that his young sons had travelled in a propeller plane to make the match.
Wilson said: "I'm not quite sure where my mum is in the crowd, she'll hate me saying this but she's just got over breast cancer.
"We found out around about the World Championship so to win that for her was amazing. For her to spend the week here and witness this is brilliant. She's loved it this week.
"The boys (Finlay and Bailey) have been on a propeller plane for the first time to get here today, they said that was nerve-wracking.
"It was great to have them all here. It will make the Guinness taste better tonight, that's for sure."
Trump was looking to extend his record of four Alex Higgins trophies. However, he came up against a dominant Wilson. The Ace gave a classy response afterwards, admitting it has been 'nice' to see a world champion using their momentum after several previous winners struggled for form.
"Kyren was too good today. The way he's bounced back from winning the World Championship is inspiring," Trump said.
"It's nice to see someone kick on after being world champion. Hopefully we can have many more battles over the years."
Wilson and Trump have enjoyed several big battles this year and the Northern Ireland Open champion insists their rivalry is "good for the future of snooker".
He continued: "What Judd has been achieving lately is inspiring, to be as dominant as he has been with the sort of level of standard on Tour these days is phenomenal."
