BBC Only Connect viewers call out Victoria Coren Mitchell as they spot glaring error

Only Connect viewers called out presenter Victoria Coren Mitchell after she allegedly made a jaw-dropping mistake.

The presenter, 52, returned to BBC Two with a new episode of the popular quiz show as the Uisage Beathas went head-to-head with the Third Agers.

The show sees the two teams compete by finding connections between unrelated clues. With knowledge only able to take them so far, the contestants must also use patience, lateral thinking and sheer inspiration to work out the connections.

During the nail-biting round, the Third Agers were asked to find the connection between the words 'Cups', 'Calvinball', 'Numberwang' and 'Mornington Crescent'.

Before the fourth word appeared, the Third Agers guessed they were all a form of made-up games. Victoria confirmed their answer before explaining the meaning behind the words.

The presenter said: "Cups is a game in Friends invented by Chandler. Calvinball is from Calvin and Hobbes."

Victoria went on to claim that Numberwang was from The Armstrong and Miller sketch show. However, fans immediately spotted the error as they pointed out that Numberwang was actually from the comedy duo Mitchell and Webb.

Viewers were even more gobsmacked as the double act is composed of David Mitchell and Robert Webb, with the former being Victoria's husband of 12 years.

Expressing their shock on social media, one wrote: "The nerve! Numberwang was from her husband and Robert Webb's show!!"

Another agreed: "Did @VictoriaCoren just misidentify one of @RealDMitchell own sketches as being by Armstrong & Miller? It's going to be frosty over supper tonight?"

A third penned: "Hilarious, @VictoriaCoren says Numberwang is a game from Armstrong and Miller on #onlyconnect. It's actually from her husbands show That Mitchell and Webb!"

Echoing this, another shocked viewer said: "Victoria Coren Mitchell on #OnlyConnect thinking that the Numberwang comedy sketches were Armstrong and Miller. They were on That Mitchell And Webb Look. She is literally married to Mitchell from that show..."

However, others are convinced that Victoria made the mistake on purpose, with one writing: "Masterclass in trolling her husband there. Numberwang."

A second agreed: "I assume it was mischief when @VictoriaCoren attributed Numberwang to Armstrong & Miller."

Calling out the presenter, another probed: "@VictoriaCoren was that on purpose for not knowing which show Numberwang was on.."

A fourth declared: "Marvellous dissing of your husband's work there @VictoriaCoren. Made even sweeter by no one in the studio laughing or understanding it."
