could find himself with an expensive problem on his hands following Curtis Jones' latest masterclass for .

Jones shone in the heart of the Reds' midfield during their weekend victory over Chelsea at Anfield.

The Englishman was continually at the heart of all things positive for Liverpool, with Jones fouled for penalty, before going on to net the winning goal in the second half.

Slot was full of praise for Jones during the post-match debrief, but the Liverpool boss could find himself with an unwanted issue on his hands if Jones continues to dazzle.

Unlike his team-mate and not for the first time this season, Dominik Szoboszlai, who arrived at Anfield for £60million last summer, struggled to leave his mark on the contest.

The Hungary international registered just one shot while failing to create a single chance throughout the 90 minutes, and, to add to his frustrations, finished the game with a yellow card for his troubles.

A sharp contrast to Jones' Man of the Match showing during.

Slot has previously been critical of Szoboszlai's performances, demanding more in the way of goal and assist contributions from the ex-RB Leipzig star.

, Slot said: "He has been important for us. He has been outstanding in his pressing game. Something that we have to work on with him is scoring goals and creating chances."

With the extended schedule this season because of the new Champions League format, minutes are unlikely to come at a premium for any player in Slot's side.

But, Szoboszlai could find himself left on the bench for Liverpool's more important matches as the season progresses.

It's well known Slot isn't a tinkerman and will only rotate his best players when it's absolutely necessary.

So far, Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister - who dropped out of the starting XI on Sunday because of a mild illness - have emerged as two of Slot's preferred midfielders.

It means Szoboszlai and Jones could be left to battle it out for the final spot in the middle of the park, starting this week with two key Champions League and Premier League matches on the horizon.

Liverpool travel to face Szoboszlai's former side in Leipzig, before returning to Premier League action with a mouth-watering clash away to Arsenal.

An insight into where Slot's preference currently lies could be found in the starting line-ups for both fixtures.
