As spring is finally here, lovers are preparing to make their lawns, patios, and look beautiful for the summer. However, a true nuisance to all gardeners is keeping pesky bugs at bay. Many homeowners resort to buying toxic pest killers, which can cause more harm than good by affecting the health of their soil.
Garden experts warn that chemical ant killers "only work if you apply them while also destroying the entire nest - which could extend a long way underground and cause major upheaval to your garden". One home and garden guru has shared the best non-toxic way to keep ants and other pesky bugs away by using one bathroom is essential.
Molly Miller, also known as revealed that using a bar of soap is the best way to eliminate ants in your flower bed.
She shared: "The best non-toxic waste to keep bugs away. Use an old cheese grater to grate up a bar of Irish Spring soap, then sprinkle it through your flower beds to keep pests out.
"You can even use the bar itself to drag along your door frames to deter bugs from entering."
The Irish spring soap contains pest-repelling citrus smells and picaridin. The scent makes it hard for pests to detect your plants is there to settle on.
Ants are repelled by strong and pungent smells, including natural ingredients such as vinegar, citrus, and peppermint.
Another hack she suggested is to use cinnamon. Molly added: "Sprinkle a little ground cinnamon around your deck and patio to deter ants and bees.
"I even like to mix it with water and then spray down the areas where we spend the most time."
According to Diamond Pest Control, to make ants flee from your garden, you should sprinkle cinnamon along their trails.
You can also sprinkle cinnamon where they emerge from such as cracks and crevices.
