Genetic causes: If someone in the family has OCD, the chances of getting it increase. Streptococcal infection: Some infections can also cause abnormalities in the brain.

People suffering from OCD often feel ashamed of their condition and try to hide their behaviour. They feel that their behaviour isolates them from others, which makes them more mentally distressed.

How can you help people suffering from OCD?

Telling someone with OCD that their fears aren't true can actually backfire. Research shows that reassuring people doesn't improve their condition but may make their obsessive thoughts worse. Instead, engaging them in activities like taking a walk or watching a movie to keep them occupied or reminding them of relaxation techniques may be more helpful.
