New GST rates update: Stock market lost its initial gains
- On Thursday, the stock market opened with gains and at one point the Sensex went up by about 900 points. But as the day progressed, it lost this gain to a great extent. The BSE Sensex closed at 80,718.01 points with a gain of 150.30 points i.e. 0.19%. The NSE Nifty closed at 24,734.30 points with a gain of 19.25 points i.e. 0.08%.

Tax on entry-level and high-use items such as certain electrical equipment will be reduced from 28% to 18%. GST on footwear and clothes has been reduced from 12% to 5%. - Tax on namkeen, bhujia, mixture, chabena and similar ready-to-eat items (except roasted gram), which are pre-packaged and labelled, will be reduced from 18% to 5%.
