Shubman Gill is captaining India in the second Test against England, which is taking place at Edgbaston in Birmingham. The right-handed batsman from Punjab came out to bat at number 4 after Karun Nair was dismissed in the second session of the first day. During the match, England fast bowler Brydon Cars tried to distract Gill by signaling a no-ball during his run-up.
The incident happened before the fourth ball of the 34th over of India's first innings. Cars was seen signaling a no-ball with his left hand in his run-up. Gill saw this, and he moved out of the batting position. Moved out of stance. However, despite this, the English bowler bowled the ball, but the umpire declared it a dead ball, and thus Cars's ploy failed.
Gill, who scored 147 runs in the first innings of the first Test played against England at Headingley, would like to score big runs in the first innings of the second Test as well and help India score big. In the second session of the first day's play, Gill had added 66 runs for the third wicket with Yashasvi Jaiswal (87). Jaiswal was dismissed by England captain Ben Stokes.
If Jaiswal had scored 13 more runs, he would have equalled the 29-year-old record of Sourav Ganguly, who is the only Indian batsman to score a century in his first two Tests on English soil. Ganguly made his Test debut for India against England at Lord's on June 20, 1996, and scored 131 runs.
