A potentially major accident was narrowly avoided at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) on 21 July 2025, when an Air India flight from Kochi skidded off the runway while landing.
What Happened?According to a CSMIA spokesperson, the incident occurred at 9:27 AM, when the incoming flight deviated from the runway during landing. The airport's emergency response teams were immediately activated, ensuring swift action to secure the aircraft and passengers.
All Passengers SafeDespite the scare, there were no injuries reported. All passengers and crew members were confirmed safe, and evacuation procedures were not required.
Investigation LikelyAlthough no official cause has been cited yet, such incidents typically prompt an internal investigation by the airline and aviation authorities to assess factors like weather conditions, pilot handling, runway condition, or mechanical issues.
Airport Operations UnaffectedThanks to the quick response, the situation was controlled without further disruption, and airport operations continued as normal.
