Trent Alexander-Arnold broke down in tears at Anfield as Liverpool lifted the trophy after his final appearance.

The homegrown right-back was overcome with emotion after Virgil van Dijk lifted the trophy and the Reds paraded it in front of a delirious Kop on Sunday afternoon.

Two weeks on from being booed by home fans when he came on against , Alexander-Arnold had received a positive reception when he came on for Conor Bradley at half-time against .

He had looked pensive when approaching the stage to pick up his medal after the match, but when his name was read out to the fans Alexander-Arnold received huge cheers.

Speaking after the game, he said: "I didn't know what to expect at Anfield after what happened a few weeks ago. To get the reception that I got means more than anything to me."

Many fans have been left angered by Alexander-Arnold leaving his boyhood club on a free transfer, but his Reds team-mates have been at pains to point out that he deserved a good sent-off.

Alexander-Arnold said: "I hope that one day the fans of this club will be able to recognise the hard work and everything I've done for this team. There wasn't a second where I didn't think about this team. I've loved every single minute of it. "It goes down as the best day of my life for me."
