Jessie J lays bare miscarriage heartbreak in poignant new music

Gearing up to release her first album in seven years, is certainly back with a bang, bang! The East-London born singer performed new music for the first time this week during an intimate performance at London bar Ronnie Scott's, where exclusively listened to the new tracks.

And one unreleased song, titled Believe in Magic, sees Jessie open up about grief, Before singing, Jessie explained, "I feel like this music embodies a long period of my life, from very, very sad, depressive grief heavy times to utter joy and happiness."

Performing the track, she sang the lyrics: "This year has been so much grieving, I just want to live with the ones who can feel me." Jessie shared that she had been pregnant and miscarried back in 2021, sharing the news on social media at the time just hours before she was due to perform in LA.

She wrote at the time: "Yesterday morning I was laughing with a friend saying 'seriously though how am I going to get through my gig in LA tomorrow night without telling the whole audience I am pregnant'. By yesterday afternoon I was dreading the thought of getting through the gig without breaking down…"

She then went on to explain that after going for her 3rd scan, she was sadly told there was no longer a heartbeat. After musing that she may regret sharing the upsetting news online, Jessie confirmed she would still be performing later in the evening. Jessie went on to welcome son Sky two years later, announcing the joyous news in May 2023.

She shares her little one with boyfriend Chanan Colman, who was supporting her on Tuesday at the intimate concert. At the gig, despite covering many heavy topics including grief, Jessie delivered razor sharp vocals while managing to make the room laugh between songs.

“I love that I’m nervous right now, it means I still actually give a f***,” giggles Jessie before kicking off the intimate show.

Jessie also confirmed that she has been working Confirming she has been working with ’s long-time co-songwriter Ryan Tedder on her new album, something which was speculated earlier this year.

Describing the creative process as ‘beautiful’, Jessie explained that she's been working on the new album for 'six to ten years' and admitted it felt like 'going back to the start' of her career.

Alongside Believe In Magic, Jessie debuted several other songs which are yet to be released, including single No Secrets, which will be released this month.
