Davina McCall nearly 'ruined' romantic proposal with 'miserable' admission

Davina McCall has confessed she nearly ruined her partner Michael Douglas' romantic proposal because she was "miserable". The presenter and Masked Singer star got engaged to Michael in a romantic clifftop proposal.

Now, Davina has opened up about the proposal and how she was in the completely wrong outfit for the clifftop moment. She said how she was wearing cowboy boots with steel toe caps.

Speaking on The Chris Evans Breakfast Show on Virgin Radio UK, she said: "It happened in Ibiza. What was quite funny was after after lunch Michael had booked a lunch which was like, not that usual on a beach and he wanted to take me to a beach where we'd been with all the kids before. So I was like, 'Oh, this is really nice.'

"And then he said, 'Let's go for a walk around the cliffs.' Now I'm in Ibiza right? When I'm in Ibiza, I dress for Ibiza, Chris. I'm in some god-forsaken cowboy boot, little pink cowboy boots with steel toe caps and I'm not in a cliff climbing outfit."

Davina went on the explain that she knew it would make him happy so she proceeded to climb up the cliff.

"But I could see he really wanted me to like it would make him happy. And I thought, 'Oh, bless.' Like he wants to show me something beautiful. So I was like, 'Stop being miserable and get up the cliff,'" she said.

"So I'm clambering up the cliff in some sort of steel toe capped cowboy boots. I'm not going to it say what happened, but he recited something to me which was lovely, because I'm going to keep something for myself."

She added: "He recited something that was lovely and then he got down on one knee. But what was quite funny is he'd spent the year before getting down on one knee and tying a pretend shoelace. So I'd go, 'Oh my gosh, he's proposing'. And then he'd tie a pretend shoelace and I go, 'Ah.' So after four or five of those, it just became an in joke."

It comes just days after Michael told The Mirror that plans for marriage were in the near future. He told us at the National Television Awards: "There could be wedding bells on the way, who knows, I’m not going anywhere else if that’s why you mean. But we’re in no rush for any of that, we just enjoy each others company."

Davina and hair stylist Michael first met when he began working on her hair while she hosted Big Brother. They went public with their relationship in 2019 and moved in together in 2023.
