In Uttar Pradesh, work is going on at a fast pace on the food storage scheme for the prosperity of farmers and the security of grains. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has given instructions to give top priority to the construction of warehouses.

Keeping in mind the welfare of farmers and the safety of grains in Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has given instructions to take forward the grain storage scheme rapidly. The purpose of this scheme is that the grains produced by the hard work of farmers can be stored safely for a long time, and they can get better prices.
In an agricultural country like India, crores of tonnes of grains are produced every year. But the big problem is that due to a lack of adequate storage, a large part of it gets spoiled. Sometimes due to reasons like rain, sometimes moisture, and sometimes rats, farmers have to suffer huge losses. This is the reason why the central government has called it the country's largest grain storage scheme and has decided to implement it by linking it to the cooperative sector. Yogi Adityanath clearly said that the basis of prosperity of farmers is the warehouses built for them. They should be given top priority.
Start and target of the scheme
According to media reports, the pilot project of this scheme has been started in 11 states of the country. There, warehouses have been built at 11 PACS (Primary Agricultural Credit Society) level. Now this model is being spread across the country. Under the food storage scheme in UP, warehouses will be built at 96 places in 35 districts. The Chief Minister has directed that the financial process should be completed by November 15, 2025 and construction should start from January 2026. The construction of warehouses should be completed by April 2026 at all costs.
Farmers will get direct benefits
Now they will not need to keep their grains in the open.
Grains can be kept in safe warehouses for a long time without spoiling.
Farmers will be able to sell their grains when they get good prices in the market.
Selling at a fair price will increase their income and reduce dependence on middlemen.
Big step related to cooperation
This scheme is not limited to building warehouses only, but it has been linked to the cooperative movement. PACS are being computerized and connected to modern technology. Every farmer will be able to connect directly with this. The Chief Minister said in a recent meeting of the Cooperative Department that keeping in mind the "Sahkar se Samriddhi" mantra of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, it is a priority to connect every farmer and every rural family with this scheme.
Promoting employment and rural development
Warehouse construction will not only benefit farmers, but will also create new employment opportunities in rural areas. Along with warehouses, custom hiring centers, processing units and fair price shops will also be built. This will provide employment to the youth in areas like agriculture, dairy and fisheries.
