Chennai: The capital city is known as the Gateway to South India, usually experiences hot and humid weather conditions during the summer and early monsoon months. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a mix of rain and scorching heat across Tamil Nadu over a next few days.
The city's weather is expected to remain warm and humid, with occasional chances of light rainfall due to the ongoing Southwest Monsoon influence. On Sunday, the capital city woke up at 05: 49 AM and the sun is likely to set at 6: 40 PM. Today, the minimum and maximum temperature are likely to be around 28 degrees Celsius and 34 degrees Celsius, respectively.

Today's weather
The Regional Meteorological Department (RMC) has predicted rainfall to continue over Tamil Nadu. Other parts of the state will experience light rainfall and it is likely to be accompanied by thunderstorms. The temperatures are expected to remain above normal, causing discomfort in several regions.
The city may experience gusty winds of speed reaching 30-40 kmph. Rainfall is likely to occur in districts, including Western Ghats, Puducherry, Karaikal, Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tiruvenelveli, Theni, and Thenkashi until the weekend. The skies are expected to be cloudy and it will remain the same throughout the day.

Cyclonic circulation is influencing the rainfall
The rainfall is likely due to a cyclonic circulation over the Southeast Bay of Bengal and the adjoining South Andaman Sea. The weather department also stated that, apart from Tamil Nadu, rainfall is likely to occur in other states, including Odisha, Karnataka, West Bengal, Maharashtra, and Telangana.
