In a move to manage overcrowding and ensure smoother passenger flow during the busy summer vacation season, the Central Railway has announced a temporary restriction on the sale of platform tickets at key railway stations in Mumbai and Pune divisions.
Starting April 18 and continuing until May 15, 2025, platform tickets will not be available for purchase at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), Kalyan, and Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) in Mumbai Division, as well as Pune station in Pune Division. The decision has been approved by the competent authority of Central Railway, citing increased footfall during the vacation period as the primary reason.
To ensure that needy passy are not affected by the restriction, divisional officers and station supervisors have been instructed to extend platform ticket access to individuals accompanying senior citizens, children, illiterate persons, the ailing, and women passengers who may need assistance.
Additionally, Central Railway has directed that information regarding the temporary restriction and the exceptions be clearly communicated to passengers. Notices will be displayed prominently at booking windows and announcements will be made regularly through the station’s public address system.
