Gwalior (Madhya Pradesh): A 34-year-old woman was raped multiple times on the pretext of marriage in Madhya Pradesh’s Gwalior.
The woman, a widow, told police that the accused befriended her through social media and promised to marry her. Believing him, she got into a relationship, but he later backed off and went missing.
The accused is currently on the run.
Rape Case: SC Orders Fresh Probe Against Congress MLA Hemant KatareAccording to reports, the woman lives in a posh apartment in the Padav area with her 14-year-old son. She lost her husband in 2018 and had been living alone since then.
About six months ago, she met a young man, identified as Girish Pathak on Facebook, who claimed to be a resident of Chinaur and an engineer in an IT company in Ahmedabad.
Over time, the two developed a close relationship. The woman confided details of her personal life with him, following which Girish expressed his desire to marry her. Upon this, the woman asked for time to speak with her family, but Girish that he will convince her family somehow.
Further, the accused visited her residence and met the woman's mother and brother and gained family's trust by discussing marriage plans.
After the family left, Girish stayed back at her apartment and on the same night, at around 12 o'clock in the night, he allegedly raped the woman and told her that the marriage was now finalised.

He later visited again and had physical relations with her several more times.
However when asked about marriage, Girish flatly refused stating that his family was unwilling to accept a widow as his wife and fled to Ahmedabad. He allegedly, began avoiding the woman and stopped answering her calls.
When the woman visited Ahmedabad to confront Girish, he allegedly assaulted her and again refused to marry her. After this, the victim returned and lodged a formal complaint in Padav police station. The police have registered a case and launched manhunt to nab the absconding accused.
