New Delhi [India], April 19 (ANI): Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday said that officials who are found guilty of flouting rules leading to construction of weak buildings in the national capital should face strict punishment and all such buildings in the city should be notified and due action taken against them.
Speaking to mediapersons here, the Chief Minister said, "It is a very sensitive issue that the way such weak buildings are being constructed, by flouting all the rules, the officers who are guilty of such construction should also be punished. Contractor or builder involved in this should also be punished and all such buildings in the entire city should be notified and action should be taken against them. It is very sad for all of us that people are dying due to such accidents..."
Earlier in the day, the CM condoled the deaths of four people in early morning building collapse incident in Mustafabad in the national captital.
In a post on X, CM Gupta asserted that strict action will be taken against the culprits."
The heart is deeply saddened by the tragic incident of the building collapse in Mustafabad. Orders have been given to investigate the incident and strict action will be ensured against the culprits. DDMA, NDRF, DFS and other agencies are continuously engaged in relief and rescue operations," she said.
"Arrangements have been made for the proper treatment of all the injured. My deepest condolences to those who died in this unfortunate accident. May God grant peace to the departed souls and give strength to the bereaved families to bear this irreparable loss," CM Rekha Gupta posted on X.
Delhi Minister Kapil Mishra who visited the site of the collapse said that the incident was not an accident but a "criminal ignorance."
Mishra stated that the Delhi Police and NDRF teams were working on the rescue operations, further stating that both officials and builders were responsible for the mishap and would not be spared.
Speaking to ANI, Mishra said "It's not an accident but criminal ignorance. It's a painful incident. Delhi police and NDRF teams have been working here since night. Four people lost their lives, 15 have been rescued, and 10 more people are feared trapped in the debris. It's not an accident but criminal ignorance. Both officers and builder are responsible for it, and they will not be spared. Mustafabad, Seelampur, Old Delhi... and such areas have illegal construction."
Mishra also stated that no officer would be spared further stating that few of the nearby buildings had been vacated.
"We have called the MCD commissioner, and we will ensure that no officers are spared. A few of the nearby buildings have been vacated..." he said.
Taking to social media platform X, Mishra wrote in a post "Visited the site of the incident in Mustafabad.
Chief Minister @gupta_rekhaji is directly monitoring the relief work. In Delhi, areas like Mustafabad, Seelampur, Jafrabad, Seemapuri, Jamia, Old Delhi are flooded with such illegal constructions.
The corporation commissioner has been instructed to vacate the nearby unsafe buildings. No responsible officer will be spared." (ANI)
