WhatsApp has launched new safety features to protect against scams and fake accounts, which will provide alerts and control to users in groups and chats.
Instant messaging app WhatsApp is constantly introducing new features to make its platform safe and reliable. Now the company has taken a big step to curb scams and fake accounts. WhatsApp has rolled out new safety features, which will help users a lot to avoid fraud.
Protection from unknown people in groups
According to the report of WABetaInfo, if a user is added to a WhatsApp group created by an unknown person (who is not in the user's contact list), the app will show a safety overview screen.
This information will be found on this screen:
-Who added you to the group?
-Is that person in your contacts?
-Are the other members of the group in your phonebook or not?
Until the user himself decides to remain in the group, all notifications of that group will remain muted. This will protect users from phishing attacks and spam.
Alert in individual chats too
WhatsApp has also observed that scammers often contact users from other social media platforms to bring them to WhatsApp, and then make them victims of scams. To stop this trend, the app is now testing a new safety alert.
When a user starts a chat with someone who is not in his contact list, WhatsApp will show a pop-up alert. This alert will contain some information related to that person, so that the user can start the chat thoughtfully.
Action on millions of fake accounts
WhatsApp has informed that the company has recently removed more than 6.8 million scams and fake accounts. This shows that the platform is taking a tough stand against scammers.
The company has also clarified that end-to-end encryption and user privacy will always remain, but necessary steps will continue to be taken to further strengthen user safety.
