If you are a salaried employee, here’s some important news for you! The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has introduced several major changes related to Provident Fund (PF) accounts. Whether it's activating your UAN (Universal Account Number), resetting a forgotten password, or updating your KYC details, these updates make managing your PF account smoother than ever.
With retirement planning gaining more attention, PF has become a key saving tool for the working population. And at the heart of the PF system lies the UAN, a 12-digit unique identifier provided by EPFO to every member.
🔑 What Is UAN and Why Is It Important?The Universal Account Number (UAN) is your permanent PF identity. Regardless of how many times you switch jobs, your UAN remains the same. Each new employer assigns a unique Member ID under the same UAN, allowing you to track all PF contributions seamlessly through a single platform.
With UAN, you can:

View and manage multiple PF accounts.

Download passbooks.

Make online PF withdrawals or transfers.

Update your KYC details.
If you’ve never activated your UAN, follow these steps:
Visit the EPFO Member Portal:
Click on ‘Activate UAN’ under ‘Important Links’.
Enter the following:

UAN number
-
Aadhaar number
-
Full name
-
Date of birth
-
Registered mobile number and email
Fill the CAPTCHA and click ‘Get Authorization Pin’.
Enter the OTP received on your mobile.
Click ‘Validate OTP and Activate UAN’.
Once activated, your UAN password will be sent to your mobile via SMS.

Click ‘Forgot Password’.
Enter your UAN and CAPTCHA.
Verify your personal details (name, DOB, gender).
Choose verification via Aadhaar or PAN.
Enter your Aadhaar number and verify it using the OTP sent to your Aadhaar-linked mobile.
Set a new password and click ‘Submit’.
To update your contact details:
Log in to the EPFO Member Portal.
Click on ‘Manage’ > ‘Contact Details’.
Tick the box to change mobile number or email ID.
Enter the new information and click ‘Get Authorization Pin’.
Enter the OTP and click ‘Save Changes’.
KYC updates ensure faster PF claims and accurate employer records.
Steps to update KYC:
Log in to your EPFO account.
Navigate to ‘Manage’ > ‘KYC’.
Select the document you want to update: Bank, PAN, or Aadhaar.
Enter the correct details (ensure your name matches exactly).

For bank account updates, a cancelled cheque may be needed.
Click ‘Save’.
Your employer will verify and approve the KYC. You can track the status under the same ‘KYC’ tab.
