Trevoh Chalobah sends Levi Colwill classy message after heartbreaking Chelsea injury update

Trevoh Chalobah has shown his support for Levi Colwill, who has recently undergone surgery on an anterior cruciate ligament injury. Enzo Maresca revealed that the 22-year-old defender had suffered a knock in training before it was later confirmed that the 'problem' was worse than first thought.

Speaking to reporters at Cobham on Thursday morning, the Chelsea boss said: "We had a problem the last two days with Levi Colwill. We don’t know how long he is going to be out.

"So for us, we will see, hopefully not too long, but for sure it’s a problem for us. We need to wait; we don’t know yet [what the specific injury is]. It was in the first session on Monday, just in the last minutes of the session.

"He felt something and, as I said, we need to wait and then we see," added Maresca. The Italian then suggested that Chelsea may need to sign a replacement in the remaining weeks of the transfer window, which closes on September 1.

Maresca said: "We need to wait, and then we see. But, as I said, we know each other from last year, and, you know, in our way, how important Levi has been.

"I spoke with him yesterday and I told him that if we achieve what we achieved last year, it is also because of him – and he was a main player for us."

By Thursday evening, the club had announced Colwill required surgery on his knee. Shortly after the announcement, Chalobah showed his support for his teammate with a classy message on social media.

"We are all behind you bro. You will be back stronger," wrote the fellow Cobham graduate. Romeo Lavia and Malo Gusto were also quick to show their support for Colwill with their own messages on Instagram.

Back in January, Maresca backed the Chelsea defender to captain the club. Speaking to reporters, as quoted by the Evening Standard, the Blues boss said: "I can see the leader day by day, since we started in pre-season, something that he can improve in terms of leadership.

"He is improving a lot. Levi, even if he is not wearing the armband, he is one of the captains and in the future, he could be a captain of this club. Since we started, he is improving a lot."

Colwill has been just as complimentary of Maresca this year, having flourished under the Italian's stewardship. Speaking to the BBC in March, the Englishman said: "I think with Maresca, the way he thinks about football is light years above everyone else.

"Of course, I have been blessed with loads of different managers that have been amazing. He is pushing me to understand football in a different way. That's why I'm very blessed to play football under him and learn as much as possible."
