Liverpool to 'open contract talks' after learning from Trent Alexander-Arnold mistake

Liverpool is eager to avoid a repeat of its 2025 contract error with news that club officials are preparing to offer a new deal to left-back .

The Scotland captain has been a mainstay in the starting XI at since his low-key arrival from Hull City back in 2017. His bond with has seen the pair strike up a devastating double-act from the full-back position, and the pair have been the cornerstone of the team that won the , Champions League, FA Cup, Club World Cup and more.

At the age of 30 and having signed a new contract back in 2021, his future seems to be set in stone at Anfield but, regardless, club officials are reportedly ready to extend his deal further.

reports the club will make an offer to Robertson which would effectively see him end his career at the club - at least at the top level.

His current contract expires in 2026, but due to his position at the club within its leadership group, Anfield bosses reportedly feel the time has come to give him a new deal.

He isn't the only player with a contract needing to be ironed out, however. The club famously has until January to discuss and agree new deals with Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Alexander-Arnold, before the trio can discuss new contracts and sign pre-contract agreements with foreign clubs.
