Harry Kane pens emotional Son Heung-min tribute after Tottenham exit to complete LAFC transfer

Harry Kane has paid an emotional tribute to Son Heung-min after his former Tottenham teammate made the move to MLS side LAFC. Last weekend, Son revealed on Spurs' tour of South Korea that he would be bidding farewell to the football club after ten years and that their friendly against Newcastle United in Seoul would be his last game for the club.

It proved to be an poignant day for all connected with Tottenham as Son was given a guard of honour and standing ovation following his substitution in the second half of the 1-1 draw. His transfer to MLS side LAFC was officially confirmed on Wednesday evening, with Son and Tottenham releasing a number of videos saying his goodbyes to fans.

The 33-year-old enjoyed ten memorable years in north London and he got to bring the curtain down on his Spurs career by lifting the Europa League trophy back in May. During his decade at the club, Son formed a prolific partnership with Kane that terrified opponents as they scored goals for fun between themselves.

Over 36 hours on from Son's move to LAFC, Kane, who scored for Bayern Munich in a 4-0 win over Tottenham on Thursday evening, has now taken to his Instagram account to pen a touching message to his old teammate.

"Sonny Sonny Sonny. What can I say," he wrote. "We shared so many magical moments together on and off the pitch over the years. As a person and a player you deserved all the success you've enjoyed. One of the very best people in the game.

"It gave me such joy to see you lift a trophy last season and no doubt you'll be a success with your next steps. See you soon."

Son's move to the United States is a huge coup for MLS and he was officially presented as a LAFC player in front of a packed press conference.

“I’m here to win, and I will perform,” he explained via The Guardian. “I will definitely show you something exciting ... are we calling it football or soccer? I will definitely show some exciting football, and we definitely will have success.”

He added: “If I’m honest, it was not my first choice. But [from the] first call when I talked to John [Thorrington, LAFC general manager] after the season finished, he just changed my mind. He changed my heart. He changed my brain. He showed me the destination where I should be. Right now, I’m here. I’m more than happy.”
