Arsenal player ratings vs Inter Milan as Gabriel and Saliba decent but two players really poor

Arsenal's poor run of results continued with a 1-0 defeat to Inter Milan despite a spirited performance at the San Siro. The Gunners got off to a tough start and could have been behind inside the opening 90 seconds when Denzel Dumfries struck the crossbar with a superb outside of the foot effort.

Arsenal grew into it though and could have been in front when Mikel Merino headed just wide under pressure from Yann Sommer.

Right on the stroke of half time Merino would be left to rue the miss even further after conceding a harsh penalty when Mehdi Taremi's close-range flick hit him on the arm. Despite a lengthy VAR check Hakan Calhanoglu was able to keep his cool and tuck the spot kick away.

Arsenal resumed dominance in the second half and went close through Gabriel and Kai Havertz. Ultimately though they failed to find a leveller and were consigned to a third defeat in five matches. Here's how football.london rated the Gunners players individually at the San Siro.

David Raya: Didn't actually have an awful lot to do on the night. Went the wrong way for the penalty but after his save last time Arsenal were in Italy you'd forgive that. 6.

Ben White: Got forward well to support Bukayo Saka down the right, but his quality on the ball was lacking at times. 6.

William Saliba: After a difficult start did well to contain Taremi and Lautaro Martinez for the most part. Ultimately a solid European display. 7.

Gabriel: Also struggled in the opening exchanges but recovered well. A real threat from set pieces when allowed to get forward and nullified Inter counter attacks. 7.

Jurrien Timber: Got forward really well down the left on certain occasions but his delivery wasn't the best. Dealt well with Dumfries for the most part but looked scared of his pace in behind. 6.

Thomas Partey: A couple of moments early on where he gave the ball away sloppily. Recovered to have a decent game at the base of the Arsenal midfield. 6.

Mikel Merino: Was at the heart of several big moments in the first half. Could have scored himself and then was unlucky to concede a penalty. Away from that though he still looks to be finding his feet at his new club. Another game where he failed to fully convince. 5.

Bukayo Saka: Got forward consistently down the right flank but failed to fashion too many quality efforts on goal. Set piece delivery was not always up to its usual standard. 6.

Gabriel Martinelli: Provided consistent quality delivery from the left flank that nearly created a goal in the first period. Faded massively in the second half though. 6.

Leandro Trossard: Dropped much deeper in this game. Used more as an eight than a false nine. Struggled to replicate Odegaard's quality though and his set piece delivery was really poor. 5.

Kai Havertz: At the moment he's doing every part of being a centre forward really well - except scoring. Moved into midfield in the second half and was close to scoring with a cross that may have been shot. 6.

Gabriel Jesus: Brough a lot of bark after coming at half time but not much bite. Buzzed around a lot but never looked like scoring. 6.
